Position Purpose:
To provide Operational Excellence in all facets of logistics (Logistics Strategy, Logistics Planning and Physical Logistics).
Develop, implement, and maintain planning mechanisms to ensure effective material supply through sound Material planning,
Maintenance planning, Production planning and immediate Time booking. Provide leadership, guidance and support to the
team; train and motivate staff; develop appropriate succession plans.
Ensure Logistics skills enrichment for personnel required for operations and build capacity with aim to professionalise the
logistics trait.
Position outputs:
Strategic leadership for Logistics:
Plan, articulate and create focus around the medium and long term strategic
direction for Logistics Management at Transnet Engineering
Develop and execute Logistics Strategies across the Business Units
Financial planning and management of total Division Budget
Risk Management and Logistics Policy Formulation
Compliance with Regulatory Requirements - PFMA I PIC I FDA I WHO
Breakthrough Process engineering to achieve optimal efficiencies through lean I six sigma
Ensure Logistics planning:
Develop, implement and maintain planning mechanisms to ensure effective material supply through sound:
Exception Management
Material planning,
Maintenance planning
Production planning
WIP and Time booking
Inventory Planning Management
Management of world class supply concepts to facilitate improved Inbound Logistics
Aligned Physical Logistics
Oversee the design optimisation and implementation of applicable Logistics processes and systems for effective, efficient
and cost beneficial warehousing, transport and distribution of goods and services are realised, based on agreements
Effective utilisation of Material Handling Equipment fleet across all TE business units through sound MHE deployment
strategies for optimization of cost through the contracts of MHE fleet.
Secure physical inventory as per set LCFM, ensuring that all controls and principles of inventory management are adhered
to.
Optimisation of Reverse logistics through reuse, recycle and disposal of material
Optimisation of packaging suitability to facilitate efficient storage and handling. Ensure on-time production line supply, with
minimal impact to production.
Stakeholder management:
Communicate the vision and objectives of Logistics to internal (Business Units), and external OPS stakeholders such as
Supply Management, other Transnet Divisions and Group Supply Management.
Ensure the effective integration and synergy between Logistics, operations and Procurement and the other components of
the TE supply Chain.
Report to the Chief Procurement Officer, monthly, on progress of performance measures in respect of Logistics Strategy,
Logistics Planning and Physical Logistics.
Logistics performance monitoring:
Monitor the consolidated achievement of strategic and tactical objectives and formulate plans for corrective action, if
required.
Highlight achievement of targets on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis on divisional and group levels.
Coordinate the annual TE Logistics Management target setting and agreement process.
Coordinate companywide dashboard reporting for Logistics and warehousing KPls.
Report on the overall performance of the logistics and warehousing programme through KPI tracking.
Ensure continuous enhancement of partner agreements to support obligations to critical stakeholders in delivering on SLAs
Capacity & Capability development:
Structure skills development initiatives within the function and with the Business, National Logistics Managers, plan and
coordinate the delivery of capacity development initiatives in TE.
Transfer of skills across Transnet as the Centre of Excellence within Logistics
Ensure Logistics People enrichment
Develop and implement succession planning in the overall logistics family.
Qualifications & Experience:
.Bachelors’ Degree in Logistics/Industrial Engineering/Supply Chain Management is required.
Post graduate degree/MCIPS will be an added advantage.
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Logistics Management (which includes materials management, materials
requirements planning, materials forecasting, warehousing, managing materials budgets and transportation) of which at
least 5 years’ experience in a managerial position in a large organisation with a complex operations environment
