Full Job Description

The Workshop Department currently has a vacancy for a detail orientated, process-driven, dedicated individual to join their team. This position entails the running of the Cape Town bus workshop.


This position requires someone who can work in a fast paced, demanding and pressurized environment. The successful candidate must be able to lead a team effectively and must be skilled in time management, planning, decision making and problem-solving. The workshop Manager leads the overall vehicle maintenance and operations of the workshop.


The Workshop Manager runs the day-to-day workshop operations and implementation of fleet maintenance activities to ensure optimal running of the fleet. The individual assists in managing workshop operating expenditures and forecasting annual budgetary requirements to meet workshop operations requirements. The Manager, who is very knowledgeable in vehicle service operations, must coordinate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. This individual has excellent supervision skills, is resourceful and seeks continual improvements in manpower capability and resource requirements to meet the organisation's bus maintenance and service requirements.


Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:


Manage the maintenance of the entire fleet of vehicles, including buses, boats and cars

Ensuring compliance of timekeeping, productive output, discipline, and work programs within the workshop department

Lead and manage the productivity and efficiency of all workshop activities

Ensure that all vehicles are continually maintained to optimum standard

Ensure fleet availability to meet all schedules

Ensure the smooth running of entire fleet in accordance with best practice and company procedure

Obtain and maintain licensing and registration of all buses, vehicles and boats

Maintain electronic database of registration, inspection, and maintenance of the entire fleet

Develop and implement standard operational standards to maintain vehicles by advocating best practises in the industry

Develop and implement vehicle and equipment preventative maintenance programs

Ensure all service and maintenance agreement are adhered to and maintained

Manage and control all workshop and fleet expenses

Recon and control of the fuel account

Analyse the fuel account and report any irregularities

Research part costing

Stock control of workshop storeroom

Ensure that the machinery, equipment and tools are regularly checked as per the Safety File for the department

Ensure all administration, work orders, job cards are maintained and adhered too

Ensure compliance to Legal Requirements, Company and Health & Safety rules, policies, and regulations

Estimate costs and time required for repair or maintenance of the vehicles

Investigate breakdowns and provide accurate feedback

· Ensure the preventive maintenance program remains relevant to the current fleet


Guide maintenance teams on technical issues.

Manage annual budget for the department.

Qualifying Criteria


Previous workshop management experience

Previous management or leadership experience

Computer literate (MS Word, MS Excel)

Strong administrative ability

Experience working with an auto electrician

Sound communication

Good project management experience

Must be prepared to work overtime when required

Hands on practical approach to the job

Advantageous


Qualified Diesel Mechanic

Code 14 Drivers License and valid PDP

Knowledgeable on the Occupational Health & Safety Act
